The entry-level Masahiro series uses a mono-steel alloy enriched with molybdenum and vanadium. Two elements that significantly enhance the performance of the steel.
Molybdenum contributes to the toughness of the steel, meaning the blade is less prone to chipping, offers improved wear resistance, and is less susceptible to pitting corrosion. It also adds stability during heat treatment.
Vanadium is often referred to as the “king of edge retention.” It refines the grain structure of the steel and increases wear resistance, allowing the knife to stay sharp for a longer period of time.
