Together with Sakai Takayuki, we organized a major event last month (April 2026). Takahiro Aoki, president of Sakai Takayuki, attended to celebrate 10 years of Takayuki x Rangelrooij. During this event, Michiko Kubota, one of Japan’s finest hand engravers, was in the spotlight.
Michiko-san is a true craftswoman with a passion for tradition, craftsmanship, and art. She expresses this through unique engravings, known in Japan as Chōkin (彫金), where characters are hand-carved into the blade using a hammer and chisel.
Michiko understood that not everyone could attend this wonderful event, and especially for them she left behind a number of unique knives. Exclusive Gyutos engraved with both the Sakai Takayuki kanji and the Takayuki x Rangelrooij engraving.
The 210 mm Gyuto features a VG10 core steel and a finish called Nashiji. Nashiji literally translates to “pear skin” and gives the knife a robust and understated appearance.
The handles were also specially brought over from Japan for the event. Combined with Michiko-san’s hand engraving, this makes every knife truly special and genuinely one of a kind.
